Ancient Chinese coins: A brief history of Tang Dynasty coins
Following the collapse of the Sui Dynasty, prominent Sui offical, Li Yuan, enthroned himself as the first Emperor of the Tang Dynasty. The first Tang Dynasty coin was the Kai Yuan Tong Bao coin, whose legends were based on the works of famous calligraphist, Ou-Yang Hsun. These Ming coins were written in a style where the character "Bao" or "Yuan Bao" were written in 4 different ways; left hook, right hook, double hook and without hook.
